BLOKES ON BIKES
Another in our Team Tortoise series

By MAL TYSON
Gotta tell you about the Tortoises
a cycling team down the Coast
three times a week, the blokes all seek
a cycle, chat and eggs on toast
There’s Mick on a hill at Carrara
an English Gentleman (way, way back)
Then there’s Mr Twentyman
there’s a rumour - John likes a chat!
Then we enjoy Paul Santon
Yep, the boxer, got a good jab or fend,
So we say Buongiorno to the Italianio
the muscled Paul, always my friend.
Grant the big Kiwi rocks up
don’t ever trust his dodgy canoe,
then comes Revvin’ Kevin
you guessed it, Kevin’s a Kiwi, too.
Ian Begaud our president shows up
like all presidents do, just pokes along,
Robert will appear, absent most of the year
when in Europe, will belong.
Jamie fronts up
Jamie and Millie both all good,
Rob from Port Macquarie lobs in
Then joins the neighbourhood.

Colin from Tenterfield joins us
with his Pamela he shares,
Yep, sometimes we catch up with Chicka
sometimes a Tortoise, mostly the Hares.
Firstly there’s our Rollo
the cycling Shepherd, Leader of the men,
Rollo likes to count the bikes
Known also as Mother Hen
Meet George from Molendina
George does it easy, likes the run to Labrador,
Cheapest on the coast, 2 eggs, bacon and toast
Three dollars ninety, just short of four.
John Brooks comes along
worked SAS, in another day,
then there’s Ruben, we see too seldom
Ever good when he rides our way.
Ian Brown eases in
don’t do pedals, prefers electricity,
Gary comes along, always a smile goin’ on
Smile gets wider when he’s on ski.
Derek turns up most days of the week
still a chippy, keeps chippying away,
Steve comes in, either a smile or a grin
Whatever it is, makes our day.
John from Parkwood rolls in
got his stereo rockin’ on,
then 6 foot 5 of Tony arrives
The gentle giant then cycles along.
So there you go….
the Tortoise Team that makes my day,
Like budget brekkies, blokes and bicycles
All good they came my way.
See yarn: ON YA BIKE, MAL
