When I went overseas last year Shady Lane gave me a few quid to take. They were English pound coins that would no longer be legal currency after September. I said I’d buy a beer and raise a toast to him, which I did at The Sherlock Holmes in Northumberland Street near Charing Cross railway station and Trafalgar Square which displays a large collection of memorabilia related to Holmes. Previously known as Northumberland Arms, it appeared in the 1892 Holmes story The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor.
A while back I gave some Euros to Wombat Crook.
He asked for a small beer and this is what he got so it was a tiny toast, indeed. The Euro doesn't go far in Amsterdam apparently.
You coulda bought a cheap spliff there Wombat. Mighta made the Dutch seem interesting eh! (Sorry Ron, no offence mate)
I also gave Gwyn Roberts a few $USD for his cruise with his wyrion (grandkids). Gwyn chose coffee as his tipple and, with an engineer's eye for detail, provided these spiel about where, when etc:
